Project description
The project activity was implemented by The Natural Palm Oil (Chumporn) Co., Ltd. (NPO), which was founded in 2002 and has been operating a palm oil factory since then. It has a capacity of 45-60 tons of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) per hour or 200 tons of palm oil per day. Over the past 3 years, 2005-2007, the factory has processed an average of 43,875 tons of palm oil per year. Prior to implementation of the project activity, the wastewater from the plant was treated through a system of 8 cascading lagoons. The average volume of waste water is about 450 m3/day which gives a retention time of approximately 289 days. The ponds are minimum 2 meters1 in depth measured from the water surface. The deepest pond is 5m deep. The average atmospheric temperature in the region is 27 degree Celsius2. (Source: http://www.tmd.go.th/agromet_report.php). These conditions result in an anaerobic environment within the ponds, resulting in methane generation from the organic content (characterized by chemic
